SUMMARY:The Eternal Feminine [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:By Lucie Magnus \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Southern Belle is a familiar American archetype and as such draws “her” energy from deep within the instinctual nature of the eternal feminine. The Friday evening lecture will examine the archetypal nature of the Southern Belle\, drawing from mythological stories\, fairy tales\, literature\, and the movies. It will also look at the cultural and psychological layers that alternately enhance and restrict natural feminine energy. Specifically\, I will explore the archetypal nature of some of the goddesses present in the Southern Belle. How have their energies been savored and how have they been soured? What are the “directives” inherited by some Southern women that warp and woo? How does the Southern Belle complex develop and how can it transform? Overall\, this presentation is an attempt to tease out a sliver of the infinite resources of the eternal feminine energy inherent in life. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis Saturday workshop\, “The Eternal Feminine: Reflecting on Toni Wolff’s article\, “The Structure of the Feminine Psyche”\,” will explore the eternal feminine and how “She” is experienced in the life of women and through a man’s anima. There will be a short presentation of Toni Wolff’s as yet unpublished article\, “Structural Forms of the Feminine Psyche.” In it\, Wolff explored women’s lived experience through the lens of patterns of relatedness. She identified a personal axis of relational preference as Mother or Hetaira and an impersonal axis of Medial Woman and Amazon. Together\, we will explore goddesses embodied in these four types and how these types show up in our consulting rooms and in our lives. The workshop structure will consist of short presentations with time for personal reflection and discussion. Our resources will be from mythology\, fairy tales\, literature\, popular culture\, and our own experiences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLUCIE MAGNUS\, MA\, is a Jungian analyst in private practice in Birmingham\, Alabama\, where she has lived all her life. She entered training with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts (IRSJA) in 2000 and graduated in 2007. She is an original participant in the New Orleans Jungian Seminar and has been a member of the core teaching faculty there since 2007. Lucie has held leadership positions in the IRSJA\, serving on the Executive and Training Committees. Her interest in and introduction to the Feminine began with a reply from her first therapist when Lucie expressed her desire that her young daughter would enjoy being a girl. Her therapist’s response was\, “She will enjoy being a girl when you enjoy being a woman.” She left his office wondering\, “What does that mean? Do I need to start wearing pink?” Lucie has also lectured and presented workshops around the Southeast on such topics as the Southern Belle\, the Eternal Feminine\, love\, Jung 101\, and Jung for the Life Span. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre-registration for this program has ended\, as of Friday\, October 4\, 2024 at 9:00 am Mountain Time. SUMMARY:The Archetype of the Wounded Healer: Uses and Misuses of Countertransference in Depth Analytic Therapy [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:How do we process our experience of encountering someone who has different experiences than ourselves? What if the other person comes from a different culture? When considering diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI)\, what is meant by inclusion? There are uses of the word inclusion that broaden our understanding and knowing of another. There are other\, darker uses that deny the other’s subjective reality and harm both parties. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the Friday evening talk\, I will first describe several different ways that our minds use to know another person. Next\, I will describe some cross-cultural misunderstandings and learnings from mistakes. Then I will consider how we may improve our empathic understanding of others in our everyday lives\, be it in the consulting room or with our neighbors. \n\n\n\nThe Saturday workshop\, “The Archetype of the Wounded Healer: Uses and Misuses of Countertransference in Depth Analytic Therapy\,” is an exploration of the use of countertransference in depth analytic therapy.  The thesis is that our personal wounding can be useful to inform us when we become the therapist of others.  We will explore both how countertransference may be useful and how it may be dangerous if the analytic container is broken\, i.e. should ethical boundaries not be recognized. Prior to the workshop\, participants are strongly encouraged to read The Wounded Healer: Countertransference from a Jungian Perspective\, by David Sedgwick (Routledge\, N.Y.\, 1994\, 166 pages). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJOSEPH WAKEFIELD\, MD\, is a Jungian analyst (retired) residing in Austin\, Texas. He has an interest in cross-cultural psychiatry\, which has taken him to live and work among the American Navajo Indians and within an Israeli kibbutz. From 1977 until 1980\, he and his family lived in El Salvador\, Central America. As a member of the Interregional Society of Jungian Analysts he has advocated expanding cultural awareness beyond the European basis of the Society’s origins. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline preregistration for this program has ended (as of Friday\, September 20\, 2024 at 9:00 am Mountain Time). SUMMARY:An Alchemical Journey [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:By Jeffrey Kiehl \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The spirit of the depths took my understanding and all my knowledge and placed them at the service of the inexplicable and the paradoxical.”—C.G. Jung (The Red Book\, p. 229) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur world is being torn apart by tremendous oppositional forces\, be they political\, social\, financial\, or environmental. Opposites abound accompanied by fears of increasing polarization and disintegration. Jung’s view of psyche is rooted in an appreciation of opposites and the roles they play in life. Jung found that creatively embracing life’s ‘inexplicable and paradoxical’ nature leads to wholeness and a more soulful connection to the world. In the Friday evening lecture\, I explore Jung’s work on understanding the paradoxical nature of opposites and how we can apply this understanding to living in balance with ourselves and the world around us. To do so requires us to engage with transrational ways of knowing. I consider various dimensions of ‘extraordinary’ knowing that influenced Jung’s view of psyche and our relationship with the world. I describe how synchronicity creatively complements a purely rational worldview placing us in service to the paradoxical. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Saturday workshop\, “An Alchemical Journey\,” explores the paradoxical dimensions of alchemy. Alchemy is an ancient art that recognizes the deep\, subtle interconnectedness between psyche and the material world. Jung realized that our coming to wholeness is mirrored in alchemy and its varied stages of color and transformative processes. In this workshop\, I use alchemical images to take us on a journey of transformation\, and\, along the way\, explain the psychological dimensions of alchemical processes. I will show how we can use alchemical images to deepen our experience of the manifold dimensions of psyche and sacredness of the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJEFFREY KIEHL\, PhD\, is a Diplomate Jungian Analyst and senior training analyst for the C.G. Jung Institute of Colorado and the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. He is the author of Facing Climate Change: An Integrated Path to the Future\, which provides a Jungian perspective on climate change. He has also published articles on US Cultural Complexes and Climate Change\, The Green Man and Climate Change and The Nature of Uncertainty/The Uncertainty of Nature. Jeffrey’s interests include the relationship between psyche & matter\, alchemy\, and consciousness studies. Jeffrey has presented on these topics at national and international conferences. He lives in Santa Cruz\, CA. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline preregistration for this event ended on Friday\, April 12\, 2024 at 9:00 am Mountain Time.
