SUMMARY:The Trauma of Exile Through a Jungian Lens [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:By Lourdes Hernandez \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Friday evening presentation will discuss how the trauma of political exile splits and shapes the psyche of displaced individuals\, making their lives psychologically conflictual and experienced incongruous. The thesis explores how Jungian theory can assist displaced persons in fashioning a new mythic center that grounds the uncentered\, culturally diverse self-states that develop from the acculturation experience. It will discuss how Jungian analysis is uniquely suited to working with the exile complex and the phenomenon of Othering through the amplification of a fairy tale\, the presenter’s own dreamwork\, the process of active imagination\, and the resultant transcendent function of the symbol—ultimately bringing meaning to the trauma of exile. \n\n\n\nGroup discussion and personal applications of these Jungian concepts will be further explored and encouraged in this Saturday half-day workshop. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOURDES HERNANDEZ (USA) was marked by the traumas of war and political asylum when her family fled Cuba to take refuge in the United States. She holds postgraduate degrees from Pacifica Graduate Institute\, Regis University\, Hermeneutics\, and Counseling. After a period of study in Zurich\, Lourdes returned stateside to complete her analytic training with the IRSJA and has a bilingual private practice in Boulder\, Colorado. Lourdes is a lifelong musician and visual artist. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline pre-registration to attend this program ENDED on Friday\, September 19\, 2025 at 9:00 am Mountain Time. Tickets to attend in-person will be available at the door\, payable by cash or check. SUMMARY:Somatic Alchemy: Unearthing the Soul in the Body [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:By Lindsey Geiger \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn trauma\, primal instincts to survive collide with powerful archetypal experiences\, setting off seemingly endless cycles of pain. We suffer greatly in our reactive responses to trauma\, making it difficult to realize that our animal bodies hold invaluable capacities for mending our soul’s wounds and fractures. As C. G. Jung suggested\, alchemy beautifully illustrates the intricate processes of psychic transformation\, and it emphasizes the integration of the physical matter of our bodies to bring wholeness. \n\n\n\nIn the Friday evening lecture\, a series of compelling alchemical images will be explored\, helpfully illuminating the psychological transformations in the nervous system\, the heart work of relational trauma\, and the higher aspects of thought and spiritual practice in trauma resolution. \n\n\n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, join us for an experiential workshop\, “Somatic Alchemy: Unearthing the Soul in the Body\,” where we will engage the important dialogue between your body and your inner imagination. We will attune to the language of the body through purposeful movements and exercises designed to untie some trauma knots and enhance resilience. You will learn skills to decipher the felt sense of your body’s helpful guidance\, which is communicated in both pleasure and pain. Engaging in the Jungian practice of active imagination\, we will seek the small\, ignored aspects of our psyches that live in our sensations and impulses. If approached with curiosity and respect\, these exiled parts can transform\, offering the alchemical gold of integration. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLINDSEY GEIGER is a Jungian Analyst in Evergreen\, Colorado. She is a member of the C. G. Jung Institute of Colorado and received her MA in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Her work focuses on the integration of soul in anxiety and trauma treatment\, religious and spiritual wounding and resolution\, and creative recovery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline pre-registration to attend this program ENDED on Friday\, May 2\, 2025 at 9:00 am Mountain Time. SUMMARY:Honoring the ‘Salt of Our Experiences’ [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:By Shannon Yockey \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe live in difficult times and collectively suffer hopelessness\, despair\, and a fear of the destruction of our species and planet. These devastating archetypal forces threaten our sense of shared humanity and connection to the Anima Mundi (world soul). During such times\, it is vital to go to the deep wellspring of the collective unconscious\, which brings soul into the world. \n\n\n\nIn the mundus imaginalis\, we encounter figures of light and shadow that mirror what we need for psychic healing. Each time we work with a dream\, create a sand scene\, or ponder a synchronistic nature visitation\, we bring forth unconscious content wanting to be known\, which brings balance and wholeness. When we connect to this imaginal realm\, our body-soul split is mended\, which ripples into the collective situation. \n\n\n\n\n\nHenry Corbin reveals the imaginal realm in his studies of Islamic Sufism as a world that holds imagination as an absolutely basic function through which its reality and objective is perceived. This idea correlates to Jung’s fidelity to psychic reality—the basis for his creation of The Red Book\, his lived imaginal experiences\, and the foundation of Jungian theories. \n\n\n\nIn this Saturday workshop\, “Honoring the ‘salt of our experiences’: Exploring Alchemical Imagination through Embodied Practices\,” we will explore meaning making through symbolic expression in sandplay\, connecting to nature\, and active imagination. Through personal experiences of the sacred\, we can partner with the psyche in bringing soul into the world. Participants will engage in creativity and active imagination through sandplay\, personal reflection\, and group sharing. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHANNON YOCKEY\, LCSW\, is a Diplomate Jungian analyst with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts and C. G. Jung Institute of Santa Fe and a sandplay teaching member with ISST/STA. She has been in private practice for over thirty years\, working with children\, teens\, and adults. She specializes in early attachment\, relational trauma\, and anxiety. Shannon has presented nationally and internationally and published essays on healing and transformation through relationships in nature through direct experiences\, sandplay\, dreams\, and active imagination. She lives in Fort Collins\, Colorado. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline pre-registration to attend this workshop ENDED on Friday\, March 7\, 2025 at 9:00 am Mountain Time. SUMMARY:The Warrior as a Cultural and Psychological Necessity [ZOOM Webinar]
DESCRIPTION:By Dylan Francisco \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe world is increasingly at war—literally and metaphorically. To cope\, many seek personal methods of gaining peace—through meditation\, yoga\, time in nature\, exercise\, even therapy. But these methods are often utilized to escape difficult emotions like fear and anger. Even developing emotional intelligence can be motivated by a desire to think about emotions rather than feel them. Because the world is engulfed by fear and anger\, conscientious people are doing everything possible to eliminate them\, which is not helping because it just enacts another kind of war. We are caught between the guru and the soldier and paradoxically enough\, both must often kill their emotions to complete their mission\, which can leave behind a trail of massacred lives in one form or another. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe are suffering from the cultural and psychological absence of the Warrior. Indigenous cultures have always recognized the importance of the Warrior for the human community because the Warrior is experientially trained to honor fear and anger. Without the Warrior we lose what fear and anger can teach us. When we oppose these emotions\, we put ourselves in conflict with the psyche itself and no one at war with themselves can live peacefully with others or the earth. \n\n\n\nThis Saturday Zoom webinar will cover the Warrior as a psychological and cultural necessity from Indigenous and depth psychological perspectives\, why fear and anger are integral to psychological wholeness and human community\, and what the Warrior can teach us about living at peace with ourselves\, others\, and the earth. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDYLAN FRANCISCO\, PhD\, is co-chair and a core faculty member of the Jungian and Archetypal Studies MA/PhD program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara\, California. Dylan grounds his teaching in the depth psychology of C. G. Jung\, decolonialism\, and Mestizo/Mexican/Indigenous traditions that provide a primordial\, holistic\, and sacred worldview within which to understand the psyche\, to embody its wholeness individually\, and to live it relationally through honoring Spirit\, the ancestors\, and the land. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline registration to attend this program live ENDED on Friday\, February 7\, 2025 at 12:00 pm Mountain Time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe ZOOM link will be sent out to everyone on February 7\, 2024 by 4:00 pm Mountain time. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis webinar will be recorded. SUMMARY:In Ananke's Lap: Necessity and Grace [ZOOM Webinar]
DESCRIPTION:By Safron Rossi \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this archetypal psychological exploration of the goddesses Ananke\, the Fates\, and the Graces\, we will consider how grace and receptivity to the archetypal necessity at work in the deep patterns of the psyche contributes to the discovery of meaning\, which ultimately reveals the way our lives are lived in the lap of the gods. \n\n\n\nZoom participants will gain understanding of the significance of archetypal necessity in the thought of both C. G. Jung and James Hillman\, will locate and reflect upon how archetypal necessity appears in personal experience\, and will gain knowledge of the role of myth in patterns of behavior. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSAFRON ROSSI\, PhD\, is Core Faculty at Pacifica Graduate Institute in the Jungian and Archetypal Studies MA/PhD program. SUMMARY:A Row of Tombs: Jung and Reincarnation [FILM]
DESCRIPTION:By Sabine Lucas \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Row of Tombs: Jung and Reincarnation is a documentary film based on three videotaped interviews held in 1985 with the late Jungian therapist and New York philanthropist\, Erlo van Waveren. The film documents van Waveren’s analytical work with C.G. Jung on Jung’s past life dreams and visions. In the interviews\, van Waveren discloses previously unknown facts about Jung’s and his inner circle’s preoccupation with past life material in dreams at a time when the Zeitgeist would not allow this perspective to come out into the open.  \n\n\n\nIn the film\, Dr. Sabine Lucas––a Zurich trained Jungian analyst of the next generation who authored the book\, Past Life Dreamwork: Healing the Soul by Understanding Karmic Patterns (Baer & Company\, 2008)––introduces Erlo van Waveren and his material. Throughout the film\, she comments on van Wavern’s material and amplifies it from her perspective as a psychotherapist with a long history of working with past life dreams. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this Friday evening program\, Dr. Lucas will show her documentary in person. The film will be preceded by a brief introduction where she will relate synchronistic events that called this film into being. The viewing of the film will be followed by a discussion with the audience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSABINE LUCAS was born\, raised\, and educated in Germany. She holds a PhD in German and English studies from Heidelberg University and a diploma from the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich. While in Zurich\, she translated articles for Jung’s Collected Works as well as American trance medium Jane Robert’s books\, Seth Speaks and The Nature of Personal Reality\, into German. After relocating to the United States\, Dr. Lucas introduced students at the California School of Professional Psychology in Fresno to dream analysis and worked as a part-time therapist at the Counseling Center in Mariposa\, California. Since 1987\, she has been in private practice in Santa Fe\, New Mexico. After the 2008 publication of her groundbreaking study\, Past Life Dreamwork\, Dr. Lucas has mostly specialized on past life dreams and past life integration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelect one of the Ticket options below. SUMMARY:Political Panel: Mercurial Dynamics [LECTURE]
DESCRIPTION:By Connie Romero\, David Solem\, and Larry Rayburn \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs we face the general and presidential election of 2024\, hope and dread wrestle for dominance. Surely\, we tell ourselves\, things can’t go on as they have been. Conversely\, we resign ourselves for a dystopian four years and beyond. In such moments as these\, the perceptual tools C. G. Jung proposed are among the few that allow us to tolerate and reflect on extreme times in a genuinely psychological way. As his Red Book shows\, Jung faced such disarray and psychosis with intelligence and heart. Indeed\, his psychology was born of extremity. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJung also wrote of the mercurial spirit that\, like the volatile alchemical mercury\, cannot be pinned down. The more we try to do so the more this element seems to move––even more freely and perversely in response to attempts at control\, whether personal\, cultural\, or political. In this Friday evening forum\, three Jungian Analysts\, Connie Romero\, David Solem\, and Larry Rayburn will attempt to capture some of the mercurial dynamics in psychological phenomena attached to the political arena such as narcissism\, queer theory\, and the figure of the trickster. Each of these analysts will take a turn presenting and then face one another to question and further tease out their ideas through dialog. Following the panel’s conversation\, the discussion will open up to include the audience and their questions. \n\n\n\nPlease join us on this Friday evening after the election as we address the realities and possibilities of a great national reckoning together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCONSTANCE ROMERO\, LPC\, is a Jungian analyst practicing in New Orleans and a senior training analyst and clinical supervisor with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts (IRSJA). She is currently co-editor of the Clinical Commentaries for The Journal of Analytical Psychology\, and has published articles and reviews in that publication as well as The International Journal of Jungian Studies and Psychological Perspectives. She lectures on Jungian psychology in the US\, Europe and Indonesia. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDAVID SOLEM\, MSW\, MAPC\, MA\, MM\, is a diplomate Jungian analyst through IRSJA-IAAP and a training analyst on the faculties of the C. G. Jung Institute of Santa Fe\, the Memphis-Atlanta Jungian Seminar\, and the Philadelphia Association of Jungian Analysts. His publications have appeared in Psychological Perspectives (2017)\, Quadrant (2018)\, and the Journal of Analytical Psychology (2019 & 2021). David is in private clinical practice in Santa Fe\, New Mexico. He is also a classically trained musician and holds the position of principal keyboard (harpsichord\, organ\, piano) with Santa Fe Pro Musica as well as the position of assistant organist at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLARRY RAYBURN\, MA\, s a Jungian analyst practicing in Santa Fe\, New Mexico and a member of the C. G. Jung Institute of Santa Fe where he is currently president. He is also a senior training analyst of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. Larry is interested in male psychology\, particularly that of boys and the father\, and in the theories of play and psychic energy. He has presented and taught on the alchemical opus\, contra naturam\, or work against nature\, as expressed in the flow and counter-flow of human life\, the natural world\, and clinical practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelect one of the Ticket options below. SUMMARY:The Eternal Feminine [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:By Lucie Magnus \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Southern Belle is a familiar American archetype and as such draws “her” energy from deep within the instinctual nature of the eternal feminine. The Friday evening lecture will examine the archetypal nature of the Southern Belle\, drawing from mythological stories\, fairy tales\, literature\, and the movies. It will also look at the cultural and psychological layers that alternately enhance and restrict natural feminine energy. Specifically\, I will explore the archetypal nature of some of the goddesses present in the Southern Belle. How have their energies been savored and how have they been soured? What are the “directives” inherited by some Southern women that warp and woo? How does the Southern Belle complex develop and how can it transform? Overall\, this presentation is an attempt to tease out a sliver of the infinite resources of the eternal feminine energy inherent in life. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis Saturday workshop\, “The Eternal Feminine: Reflecting on Toni Wolff’s article\, “The Structure of the Feminine Psyche”\,” will explore the eternal feminine and how “She” is experienced in the life of women and through a man’s anima. There will be a short presentation of Toni Wolff’s as yet unpublished article\, “Structural Forms of the Feminine Psyche.” In it\, Wolff explored women’s lived experience through the lens of patterns of relatedness. She identified a personal axis of relational preference as Mother or Hetaira and an impersonal axis of Medial Woman and Amazon. Together\, we will explore goddesses embodied in these four types and how these types show up in our consulting rooms and in our lives. The workshop structure will consist of short presentations with time for personal reflection and discussion. Our resources will be from mythology\, fairy tales\, literature\, popular culture\, and our own experiences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLUCIE MAGNUS\, MA\, is a Jungian analyst in private practice in Birmingham\, Alabama\, where she has lived all her life. She entered training with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts (IRSJA) in 2000 and graduated in 2007. She is an original participant in the New Orleans Jungian Seminar and has been a member of the core teaching faculty there since 2007. Lucie has held leadership positions in the IRSJA\, serving on the Executive and Training Committees. Her interest in and introduction to the Feminine began with a reply from her first therapist when Lucie expressed her desire that her young daughter would enjoy being a girl. Her therapist’s response was\, “She will enjoy being a girl when you enjoy being a woman.” She left his office wondering\, “What does that mean? Do I need to start wearing pink?” Lucie has also lectured and presented workshops around the Southeast on such topics as the Southern Belle\, the Eternal Feminine\, love\, Jung 101\, and Jung for the Life Span. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre-registration for this program has ended\, as of Friday\, October 4\, 2024 at 9:00 am Mountain Time. SUMMARY:The Archetype of the Wounded Healer: Uses and Misuses of Countertransference in Depth Analytic Therapy [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:How do we process our experience of encountering someone who has different experiences than ourselves? What if the other person comes from a different culture? When considering diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI)\, what is meant by inclusion? There are uses of the word inclusion that broaden our understanding and knowing of another. There are other\, darker uses that deny the other’s subjective reality and harm both parties. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the Friday evening talk\, I will first describe several different ways that our minds use to know another person. Next\, I will describe some cross-cultural misunderstandings and learnings from mistakes. Then I will consider how we may improve our empathic understanding of others in our everyday lives\, be it in the consulting room or with our neighbors. \n\n\n\nThe Saturday workshop\, “The Archetype of the Wounded Healer: Uses and Misuses of Countertransference in Depth Analytic Therapy\,” is an exploration of the use of countertransference in depth analytic therapy.  The thesis is that our personal wounding can be useful to inform us when we become the therapist of others.  We will explore both how countertransference may be useful and how it may be dangerous if the analytic container is broken\, i.e. should ethical boundaries not be recognized. Prior to the workshop\, participants are strongly encouraged to read The Wounded Healer: Countertransference from a Jungian Perspective\, by David Sedgwick (Routledge\, N.Y.\, 1994\, 166 pages). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJOSEPH WAKEFIELD\, MD\, is a Jungian analyst (retired) residing in Austin\, Texas. He has an interest in cross-cultural psychiatry\, which has taken him to live and work among the American Navajo Indians and within an Israeli kibbutz. From 1977 until 1980\, he and his family lived in El Salvador\, Central America. As a member of the Interregional Society of Jungian Analysts he has advocated expanding cultural awareness beyond the European basis of the Society’s origins. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline preregistration for this program has ended (as of Friday\, September 20\, 2024 at 9:00 am Mountain Time). Prior to the workshop\, participants are strongly encouraged to read The Wounded Healer: Countertransference from a Jungian Perspective\, by David Sedgwick (Routledge\, N.Y.\, 1994\, 166 pages). \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nJOSEPH WAKEFIELD\, MD\, is a Jungian analyst (retired) residing in Austin\, Texas. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline preregistration for this program has ended (as of Friday\, September 20\, 2024 at 9:00 am Mountain Time). SUMMARY:An Alchemical Journey [WORKSHOP]
DESCRIPTION:By Jeffrey Kiehl \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The spirit of the depths took my understanding and all my knowledge and placed them at the service of the inexplicable and the paradoxical.”—C.G. Jung (The Red Book\, p. 229) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur world is being torn apart by tremendous oppositional forces\, be they political\, social\, financial\, or environmental. Opposites abound accompanied by fears of increasing polarization and disintegration. Jung’s view of psyche is rooted in an appreciation of opposites and the roles they play in life. Jung found that creatively embracing life’s ‘inexplicable and paradoxical’ nature leads to wholeness and a more soulful connection to the world. In the Friday evening lecture\, I explore Jung’s work on understanding the paradoxical nature of opposites and how we can apply this understanding to living in balance with ourselves and the world around us. To do so requires us to engage with transrational ways of knowing. I consider various dimensions of ‘extraordinary’ knowing that influenced Jung’s view of psyche and our relationship with the world. I describe how synchronicity creatively complements a purely rational worldview placing us in service to the paradoxical. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Saturday workshop\, “An Alchemical Journey\,” explores the paradoxical dimensions of alchemy. Alchemy is an ancient art that recognizes the deep\, subtle interconnectedness between psyche and the material world. Jung realized that our coming to wholeness is mirrored in alchemy and its varied stages of color and transformative processes. In this workshop\, I use alchemical images to take us on a journey of transformation\, and\, along the way\, explain the psychological dimensions of alchemical processes. I will show how we can use alchemical images to deepen our experience of the manifold dimensions of psyche and sacredness of the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJEFFREY KIEHL\, PhD\, is a Diplomate Jungian Analyst and senior training analyst for the C.G. Jung Institute of Colorado and the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. He is the author of Facing Climate Change: An Integrated Path to the Future\, which provides a Jungian perspective on climate change. He has also published articles on US Cultural Complexes and Climate Change\, The Green Man and Climate Change and The Nature of Uncertainty/The Uncertainty of Nature. Jeffrey’s interests include the relationship between psyche & matter\, alchemy\, and consciousness studies. Jeffrey has presented on these topics at national and international conferences. He lives in Santa Cruz\, CA. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets to Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline preregistration for this event ended on Friday\, April 12\, 2024 at 9:00 am Mountain Time.
